Caring for our Environment

Bella Vista Motel Napier is the proud recipient of the Silver Enviro Award.

Established in 1993, Qualmark NZ Ltd is New Zealand tourism’s official quality agency.  It is a government and private sector partnership between Tourism NZ and the New Zealand Automobile Association.  Qualmark licenses professional and trustworthy NZ tourism businesses to use its ‘tourism’s official quality mark’ to the benefit of tourists, and to help maintain industry standards.  The Qualmark Responsible Tourism initiative call for NZ businesses to achieve a balance in their approach to economic, environmental and social priorities. All businesses carrying the Qualmark logo are assessed on their environmental performance; with enviro Awards given to top performers in five key action areas.

Energy efficiency, Waste management, Water conservation, Community activities, Conservation initiative.

We are committed to this project for the future.   Here are just a few of the many policies in place at Bella Vista Napier:

  • Monitor our usage of Electricity against the number of guests staying each night to measure our carbon footprint.
  • Applying a ‘Switch off’ policy for electrical appliances.
  • CFL energy efficient light bulbs are featured throughout the property.
  • Outside lighting for night time security and safety is controlled by sensors and timers.
  • We will only use our Washing machines and Driers if we have a ‘full’ load, thereby saving water, energy and detergents. We wash using only cold water.
  • Monitor our amount of waste materials and recycle into our on-site bins.
  • Use soap that can be recycled through a ”Back to Base” recycling programme where it is turned into Bio Fuel and biodegradable industrial cleaning compounds.
  • Our Native plant gardens are bark covered to reduce the need for watering, but when we do water, we have a timer spray and drip system.
  • Dual Flush toilets are featured throughout the property.
  • Our housekeepers use microfibre cloths to keep our use of cleaning products to a minimum.
  • We use biodegradable rubbish bin liners.
  • All units have recycle bins, thereby offering guests the opportunity to help in our efforts.
  • We reuse printed paper for staff note paper.
  • We try to reduce waste by not purchasing products with excessive packaging.
  • Light bulbs and batteries dropped off at Council stations.
  • Not to be left out…we use ‘True Soft’ toilet paper, certified a 100% recycled product.
  • Bella Vista Napier supports local organisations by donations: Family and Foster Care, Heart Children, Immune Deficiencies Society, Canteen, ECOED (Environment, Conservation, Outdoor Education Trust), Epilepsy Foundation of NZ, and the Lions Club of Napier. Goods and Services: Salvation Army, Cranford Hospice, St Vincent de Paul, The Women’s Refuge.
  • We are members of  the “Sustainable Tourism” Programme run by Hawke’s Bay Wine Country Tourism Association.
